Built in the 19th century using a mixture of quick lime and jaggery, this strong structure has withstood the test of time and stands tall as one of the finest dams in the region. Situated in the serene foothills of the majestic Nelliyampathy Hills, the dam is built in the Pothundi village across Meenichiladipuzha and Padipuzha rivers.
Around 5,470 hectares of land in Palakkad benefits from the irrigation provided by Pothundi Dam. The dam caters to the drinking needs of a number of villages spread all over the region. The dam also forms a reservoir that covers an area of 30 km. There is a beautifully landscaped garden at the entrance of the dam that welcomes visitors with stunning views of the locale. An even more breathtaking view awaits every visitor at the crest of the dam. The view of the hills and the surrounding areas from this vantage point will simply bowl you over. The garden also offers adventure rides, a walkway and also an open gym.
